Salvage yards are a wonderful tradition in America and they are rapidly becoming the “in place” to save money when a car repair is necessary. Reputable lots like Cash-n-Carry offer a warranty on their used parts and a satisfaction guarantee. Just bring your tools and save money the old-fashioned way by doing it yourself.

engine-parts7You may have come across a term that you wondered about.  Some vehicles have what is called a “rebuilt title” or “salvaged title” and we thought we might take a few minutes today and explain what that means.

A vehicle is considered “salvage” when an insurance company determines that the repair to that vehicle, or the replacement cost of the damage, is in excess of approximately 75% of the market value of the car at the time of the accident or theft.  That percentage differs from state to state, ranging from 50% to 75%.

Interestingly, if a vehicle has a salvaged title but is then transferred to another state, it will be issued a clean title in the new state. This is called “washing” the title and it is perfectly legal to do so. Also, cars that come from Canada are issued a clean title in the United States despite the damage done to them.

This is a great way for some car enthusiasts and hobbyists to make some money, and many of our customers are known to do this. They will buy a rebuilt vehicle, fix it up and then have it inspected.  If the vehicle passes the state inspection it is issued a new title.  Of course, the value of a rebuilt title vehicle is lower in Blue Book than one that has not been damaged, but still, extra money can be made doing this.

If you are considering doing this, make sure that you know exactly what the damage was that happened to the vehicle.  Having this information will help you greatly in determining if it is worth doing the repair work.

And of course, when it comes time to do the repair work, your best bet for replacement parts is to go to your local salvage yard for the used parts. There you will find great deals on recycled auto parts, thus saving you even more money.  Reputable salvage yards even carry warranties on their used parts, meaning you can shop with confidence as you repair your salvaged vehicle.  Thus, you save money on the vehicle and you save money on the parts, and that is a win-win situation any old way you look at it.

Cash-n-Carry is the number one Savannah salvage yard and we have reached that point because we believe in quality customer service.  We stand behind our products and we stand behind our customers.
